The Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD). Defra’s Secretary of State can give general or specific directions to water companies in the interests of national security. First Alert’s, CPNI approved, hatch-detection system is a solution for one part of the SEMD requirements.
Securing the UK’s water supply is incredibly important and First Alert has been protecting much of the UK’s supply since 2002. Developing a security system to meet CPNI requirements was one thing but ensuring fault-free operation in such hostile environments was quite another. Our industry leading, bespoke hatch-detection system, including anti-false alarm analytics software, is used across hundreds of Britain’s reservoirs and boreholes.
On the government website Defra tells us that it intends to conduct a more thorough review of the security and emergency measures direction as resources allow, and it is conceivable that further changes may be proposed as a result. So being a British-based company with inhouse manufacturing, electronics and software keeps us ideally placed to be agile and ready to cope with any proposed changes.
The First Alert approach is unique as we handle every service ourselves. We design, manufacture, develop software, install and provide ongoing maintenance without using any third party companies.
We can provide an API and have happily integrated with various telemetry providers (eg. Modbus, Cortech) adapting to their specific protocol. Our own ‘First Alert’ bureau can give cloud-based reporting, alarm monitoring, and remote access tools (e.g. adding / removing users, reading logs, changing codes etc.)
